For decades, I’ve told myself (and probably anyone within earshot) that I “want to be a writer” while hiding my thoughts deep in the files of my computer or tattered notebooks believing that I had nothing worth saying. Recently, I’ve picked up a camera and have fallen in love with it. I started this blog to force myself to edit and produce, to take the chance that someone might like or not like my creations. I figured it was safe because nobody would notice. To my surprise, people started noticing. And then, more of a surprise, a blogger whose work I respect nominated me for what he called this Versatile Blogger Thing :). I thank you, Arley 96arley
The rules of the Versatile Blogger Award are:
1. Add the Versatile Award photo on a blog post
2. Thank the award-giver and link back to them in your post.
3. Share 7 things about myself.
4. Pass the award along to 10 favorite bloggers.
5. Contact the chosen bloggers to let them know about the award.
My Seven Things:
- I love adventure yet I’m a homebody. I’m ready to pick up and go — even to the other side of the world; at the same time, I long for home and roots.
- I love parties, activity, and action, yet I crave isolation, solitude, and my own space. While I exult in the thrill of the city, I am most at peace alone in the woods or at the edge of the ocean.
- Raised in a small town, I am the oldest of 10 children; I live in the city and am the mother of only two sons and grandmother of only one granddaughter.
- I love reading and talking about books, which is one reason I became an English teacher; I did not realize that I would spend more of my time teaching high school students who read at the 4th grade level, hate reading, and refuse to talk about books.
- I enjoy a fancy meal at an elegant restaurant where I’m treated as if I matter and an evening at the symphony or a play, but I also enjoy chicken wings, beer, and a DVD movie on a Friday night.
- When I was in my 40s, I was a cub scout leader and frequently tagged along on my sons’ boy scout hikes. (I stayed out of their way and tried my best to not be “mommy.” )
- I became SCUBA certified at 40 and earned my master’s degree at 50. I have worked as a waitress, secretary, office manager, reporter, legal assistant, crisis pregnancy counselor, teacher, home remodeler, mom, actor, director, and mentor. I have taught the brightest students and the students who struggle to read and hate school.
- I have a secret desire to be published and to have a picture I’ve taken hang on somebody’s wall.
