Thank you. I’ve tried for more than two years to shoot a hummingbird. I’m not completely happy with this shot, because I couldn’t get closer and had the wrong lens on my camera. Aren’t they just fascinating little creatures?
Thank you. The backlighting was quite by accident. I was shooting a flower when the butterfly landed on it. I was delighted by what my camera captured. I wanted to show close-ups because I am fascinated by their “faces.” Initially, I was disappointed at the very shallow depth of field, but the more I played with the images, the more I liked it.
WOW!!! Since I have no clue about photography (sometimes people praise me on my photos, but I honestly blame the camera) – what lens did you use for those? The shots are AMAZING! So real, and even kind of disturbing (if you look at at the close-up of the painted lady).. I’m truly wowed!
I used 50 mm and 85 mm primes, which I’d recently acquired. I’d used the kit lens (18-105 mm) for almost 3 years and just graduated to the better lenses. I can definitely tell the difference, even though they are low-mid grade lenses. Thank you for the positive comments.

All so beautiful! Love the butterflies. I have never managed to capture one properly like these.
Thank you, Inga. It was a little easier getting these because they were in an enclosed area at the botanical gardens.
Very nice Mona! Wonderful colors!
Thank you, Tim. The colors in nature are wonderful, aren’t they?
Butterfly Jungle at the San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park starts in just a few days. This will be my sixth consecutive year of going.

Your macro shots are amazing! You must have a lot of patience and a great tripod and lens. I especially like the humming bird and butterflies!
Hey, thank you! Actually those were hand-held. I appreciate the compliment!
